Sonoma County CA Real Estate and General Information

Are you looking for a home in the scenic Sonoma County?  I have the knowledge you will need, and would love to lend a hand.

Located in the North Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, Sonoma County is home to  495,025 individuals (as of the 2013 census).  Sonoma County is the southwestern county of 4 counties in California's Wine Country.  It is home to over 250 wineries and ranked as the 8th most productive U.S. county.

Sonoma County is bounded on the west side by the Pacific Ocean with 76 miles of coastline, along which many seals can be seen sunbathing.  Six of the county's 9 cities lie on the Santa Rosa Plain, which drains into the Russian River to the north and into the Laguna de Santa Rosa to the south.  A great variety of water bodies run through the county, including Tolay Creek, Sonoma Creek and the Petaluma River.

Over 7.4 million tourists visit Sonoma County each year.  Much of this tourism is due to viticulture and the abundant wine tasting opportunities.  However, Sonoma County offers much more than delicious wines.  Jack London State Historic Park is in the county near Glen Ellen.  The famous author's home - the Wolf House - is a national historic landmark.  Also in the county is the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, a 805-acre temperate rain forest full of coast redwoods.  At the park is a visitor center, amphitheater, nature trail and many picnic areas.  The Guerneville area along the Russian River is also highly-trafficked for its tolerant nature as it has been the home to several LGBT resorts for weekend-getaways since the 1970s.

Sonoma County is home to 2 colleges, Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College.  However, over 50 other colleges, universities and trade schools can be found within a 50-mile radius, including the University of California at San Francisco, famed for its graduate medical program.  The Cal Golden Bears of the University of California at Berkeley are also a short drive away.  NCAA Division I West Coast Conference schools and rivals, the University of San Francisco and Saint Mary's College of California are nationally-recognized private liberal arts schools also within 50 miles of the county.  Sonoma County is served by over 10 public school districts and a number of private grade schools.
